Mini scissor lifts and compact lifts for narrow access

A mini scissor lift or compact mast lift earns its place where space is the first constraint: narrow doorways, goods lifts, crowded aisles and floors with limited load capacity. Compare five Platfon models by stowed size, weight and working height.

What makes a lift mini, and who needs one

There is no formal definition of a mini lift. In practice the term covers machines that go where a standard slab scissor cannot: through a single doorway, into a goods lift, along a shop aisle or onto a mezzanine with a modest floor rating. Working heights usually stay below about 8 m (26 ft), and stowed width is the first number buyers check.

Platfon's compact group has two layouts. The AT5.5 Scissor Lift, the PS06N Scissor Lift and the PS-08 Scissor Lift are small scissor machines with a rectangular deck. The PM-06 and PM-08 are vertical mast lifts on an even shorter base of 1.36 m (4.5 ft). All five lift straight up, so the machine has to stand directly beneath the work.

Typical users are facility and maintenance teams, electrical and HVAC installers, shopfitters, sign and lighting contractors, and anyone working in occupied buildings where a large machine would block corridors or mark finished floors.

Why stowed dimensions matter more than height

On a compact job, the route to the work area decides the machine. A lift that reaches the ceiling is no use if it cannot pass the fire door on the way in. Measure the narrowest clear opening, the lowest headroom under door heads, pipes and beams, and the tightest corner, then compare them with the machine's stowed width, height and length.

Stowed heights in this group run from 1.76 m (5.8 ft) on the AT5.5 to 2.12 m (7.0 ft) on the PS-08, which can decide whether a machine fits under a low door head.

  • Measure the clear door opening, not the door leaf, and allow a steering margin
  • Compare goods-lift car size and rating with machine weight plus operator
  • Confirm floor capacity on mezzanines, raised access floors and suspended slabs
  • Working height is roughly platform height plus 2 m (6.6 ft) of reach
  • Weigh people, tools and materials together against the rated load

Frequently asked questions

What is a mini scissor lift?

A mini scissor lift is a compact, usually electric scissor machine built to pass through doorways and work in tight indoor spaces, typically below about 8 m (26 ft) working height. Platfon's smallest is the AT5.5, with 5.4 m (17.7 ft) working height, a 0.76 m (30 in) wide chassis and a weight of 400 kg (882 lb). The PS06N and PS-08 reach 7.8 m (25.6 ft).

Will a compact scissor lift fit through a standard door?

Often, but measure first. Door sizes differ between countries, and the clear opening is always narrower than the door leaf once frames, closers and handles are counted. A 0.76 m (30 in) chassis such as the AT5.5 or PM-06 passes many single doorways; the PS06N and PS-08 need at least 0.81 m (32 in) of clear width plus a small steering margin. Check stowed height against the door head too.

Can a mini lift go in a passenger or goods elevator?

Only if the car dimensions and rated load allow it, and only with the building owner's agreement. Add the machine weight to the weight of anyone traveling with it: the AT5.5 is 400 kg (882 lb), the PM-06 980 kg (2,161 lb), the PM-08 1,060 kg (2,337 lb) and the PS-08 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Many passenger lifts are not rated for loads like these, so a goods lift is usually the realistic route.

What is the difference between a small scissor lift and a mast lift?

A small scissor lift raises a rectangular deck on crossed arms and usually gives more standing room. A vertical mast lift raises a smaller platform on a single column with a very short base. In Platfon's range the PS-08 deck measures 1.65 x 0.76 m, while the PM-06 and PM-08 carry a 1.3 x 0.7 m platform on a base 1.36 m (4.5 ft) long. Mast lifts suit tight aisles; scissors give more room at height.

How much weight can a compact lift carry?

It depends on the model, and the rated load always includes the operator. The AT5.5 carries 250 kg (551 lb) for one person, while the PS06N and PS-08 are rated at 230 kg (507 lb). The compact mast lifts carry 227 kg (500 lb) on the PM-06 and 160 kg (353 lb) on the PM-08. Weigh tools and materials before lifting and never exceed the figure on the capacity plate.

Which compact lift is lightest for upper floors?

The AT5.5 is the lightest in Platfon's compact group at 400 kg (882 lb), which makes it the first machine to check for mezzanines, raised access floors and older buildings. The mast lifts weigh around one tonne and the PS-08 1,500 kg (3,307 lb). Compare total weight with the floor's rated capacity, ask the Platfon team for any further loading data and consult a structural engineer when in doubt.

Can a compact scissor lift be used outdoors?

Only if the specific model is rated for it. Compact electric machines are light and have a small base, so many are designed for indoor use on firm, level floors only. The data plate and the operator's manual state whether outdoor use is permitted and at what maximum wind speed. If neither gives an outdoor rating, treat the machine as indoor-only.

Five compact Platfon lifts and where each one fits

AT5.5: the lightest option for standard ceilings

With a platform height of 3.4 m (11.2 ft) and a working height of 5.4 m (17.7 ft), the AT5.5 is sized for suspended ceilings, light fittings, shop displays and plant rooms in buildings with ordinary ceiling heights. It is a one-person machine with a 250 kg (551 lb) rated load on a 1.28 x 0.63 m deck.

Its stowed footprint of 1.44 x 0.76 m and stowed height of 1.76 m (5.8 ft) let it roll through standard doors and into many goods lifts. Listed safety features are emergency stop, emergency lowering, overload protection, a descent alarm and a safety bar.

PS06N and PS-08: more height on a narrow chassis

Both reach a 5.8 m (19.0 ft) platform height and 7.8 m (25.6 ft) working height on a chassis 0.81 m (32 in) wide, with a 230 kg (507 lb) rated load. The difference is footprint: the PS06N is 1.53 m (5.0 ft) long with a 1.37 x 0.7 m deck, while the PS-08 is 1.9 m (6.2 ft) long and gives a larger 1.65 x 0.76 m deck.

The PS-08 weighs 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) and lists automatic pothole protection, which lowers guards beneath the chassis as the platform rises to reduce the risk of a wheel dropping into a hole. The weight of the PS06N is not yet in the published data, so ask for it with your quote. For taller machines, see the full scissor lift range.

PM-06 and PM-08: the smallest footprint for aisles

The two compact mast lifts stand on a base just 1.36 m (4.5 ft) long. The PM-06 Vertical Mast Lift reaches 6.8 m (22.3 ft) working height with 227 kg (500 lb) capacity and a 0.76 m (30 in) width. The PM-08 Vertical Mast Lift reaches 8.0 m (26.2 ft) but carries 160 kg (353 lb), enough for one operator with a light tool kit.

Both list tilt protection and a motion alarm alongside emergency stop, emergency lowering and overload protection. For a deeper comparison, including the taller two-person PM-10J, read our vertical mast lift guide.

Floors, finishes and occupied buildings

Compact machines often work in finished interiors. Protect sensitive floors with boards or mats where needed, check that ramps and thresholds stay within the slope limits in the operator's manual, and keep a spill kit for hydraulic oil to hand. If floor marking is a concern, confirm the tire type with your quote.

Because all five models are electric, there are no exhaust fumes at the point of use, which helps in offices, hospitals, schools and shops that stay open during works. Cordon off the area so that staff and visitors cannot walk beneath the platform. Our scissor lift operating guide covers pre-use checks and site hazards in more detail.

When a compact machine is the wrong choice

A mini machine is not a downsized all-rounder. If the work is above about 8 m (26 ft), on rough ground, exposed to wind, or needs two people with heavy materials on the deck, a larger machine such as the PS-12 Scissor Lift, which lifts 320 kg (705 lb) to a working height of 11.8 m (38.7 ft), will be safer and quicker.

Three of these five machines, the AT5.5, PM-06 and PM-08, are rated for one person. If you are comparing single-occupant machines across scissor, mast and boom types, our one-man lift guide sets them side by side, and the electric scissor lifts page covers charging and indoor use.
